Practice Directors, Colin Campbell and Brian Hamilton have worked together since 1991 and have developed a close working relationship allowing them to understand how best to harness their collective abilities with each bringing their own strengths to the partnership. This understanding helps provide a clear strategy for the company management and how it delivers its services to clients. They are both actively involved in projects from inception to completion and retain overall responsibility for the team of chartered professionals, engineers and technicians that deliver every commission. They are assisted by a senior management team which brings a wealth of experience in the delivery of projects.

BEng(Hons) CEng MIStructE / SER Registered Certifier

Colin is a chartered engineer and an SER Registered Certifier of buildings, with over 30 years’ experience in the design and supervision of construction projects. He joined G3 Consulting Engineers Ltd in April 1996, was appointed as an associate in 2000 after attaining chartered status then became a Director in 2006. Following a management buy-out in 2019, Colin assumed the role of Managing Director.

Colin’s particular area of interest and expertise is in Civil Engineering design. He has been the lead engineer on a large number of major regeneration projects in inner city areas, providing expert advice on earthworks, drainage, roads and utilities.

His strengths are in providing practical and cost-effective solutions to the various challenges that are encountered with engineering design and has a reputation of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with clients and contractors to achieve this.

Colin is ultimately responsible for the output of the practice ensuring the quality of our service in line with our ISO9001 Quality Management System.

BSc CEng MIStructE AaPS / SER Registered Certifier

Brian joined G3 Consulting Engineers in May 1999 and became a Director in 2006. He is a chartered structural engineer and SER Certifier with over 30 years’ experience in the design of new build and refurbishment projects involving traditional, steel and timber frame construction. He is also an Associate Member of the Association for Project Safety.

Brian’s technical expertise lies in structural engineering, and he has a particular interest in the evolution of building design, advances in energy efficiency and performance, sustainability and fire engineering and how this affects the role of the structural engineer.

Brian is also the Director responsible for HR and is committed to the ongoing professional development of G3 knowing that this forms a key part of the company’s strength. He believes that by ensuring employees have the appropriate skills they will be better equipped to successfully resolve problems and provide economic designs whilst maintaining the quality that our clients expect. In addition to benefiting the company, this allows employees to achieve their full potential and Brian works closely with all staff members to identify and achieve training objectives.

Ryan joined G3 in 2015 and brings nearly 20 years’ experience in the civil and structural engineering design. In addition to working on a variety of new build residential projects, Ryan has an in depth knowledge of working collaboratively on complex hospital refurbishment projects and is familiar with the demands of integrating design requirements of both structural and M+E engineering disciplines.

He also has extensive experience of commercial, leisure, education and healthcare projects, and has worked on various Network Rail sites, gaining an in depth appreciation of the challenges and requirements that accompany this type of work. Ryan was promoted to Associate in 2019 and leads a team delivering civil and structural engineering solutions on a variety of projects.

Douglas has 35 years’ experience within mainstream consulting engineering and has an in depth knowledge of civil and structural engineering across various sectors from traditional residential, commercial and industrial projects through to the bespoke design of a new chimpanzee enclosure for Edinburgh Zoo.

He has a particular interest in large scale commercial and industrial regeneration projects and brings a wealth of experience in working collaboratively with a wide range of project stakeholders in order to solve engineering issues as they arise. In 2019 Douglas took up the position of Associate with G3 Consulting Engineers Ltd where he leads a civil and structural team.

Jen is a Chartered Scientist and has been working in the geo-environmental field since graduating in 2000. Across this period, she has worked within contracting, regulatory and consultancy environments, allowing her to gain a detailed understanding on all sides of the site investigation, risk assessment and remediation process.

She was appointed as an Associate of G3 Consulting Engineers Ltd in March 2014 and manages the Geo team, supervising the provision of a full range of geo-environmental services from desk studies through site investigations and risk assessments, to remediation design and validation.

Jen also advises clients on waste and material management, environmental due diligence and general land acquisitions for proposed developments. In addition, she provides in-house training on all aspects of contaminated land assessment and development, ensuring that all staff members are kept up to date with changes in legislation and policy. Providing employees with this understanding ensures they are fully equipped to adopt the recommendations of the geo-environmental investigation in to their civil and structural designs and are better placed to deal with queries as development proceeds.

HNC RMaPS Tech IOSH

Brian holds the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health (with distinction) and Essentials of Health & Safety and Risk Management and is also a Registered Member of the Association for Project Safety and a Technical member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. He has been involved in the construction industry for over 30 years, specialising in CDM co-ordination over the past 20 years. Brian has worked extensively with Local Authorities, Housing Associations and Private Builders delivering Health and Safety services for a variety of development projects, ranging from single storey special need housing to multi storey flatted developments.

Brian delivers in-house training on all aspects of Health and Safety and Risk Assessment, ensuring that all engineers and technicians are aware of their responsibilities under the CDM regulations and are kept up to date on changes in legislation.

Helen joined G3 as Accounts Manager in 2016 to run the in-house, accounts team. She brings over 30 years’ experience to the Practice and is responsible for managing all aspects of the company accounts.

Her main duties are the production of the Monthly Management Accounts and Annual Statutory Accounts together with overseeing Credit Control, with Tax, VAT, PAYE and Corporation tax also coming under her remit. An important part of her duties is liaising with the company Directors providing financial information which can be used in their strategic planning and business decisions.

HNC Administration and Information Technology Grade A and SVQ3/MA Business and Administration

Lauren joined the practice in 2012, progressing to the position of Office Manager in early 2019. Her trusted working relationship with the Directors allows her to manage the day to day running of the office and provide support to the wider management team. With over 14 years’ experience in office administration, Lauren is well placed to fulfil this role, fostering a strong connection between the core technical and supporting administrative functions.

In addition, she acts as quality manager, monitoring and reporting on compliance with the approved Integrated Management System procedures, arranging and reporting on internal and external audits. Lauren also assists the Directors in the preparation of bid submissions and is a point of contact for new enquiries. As training forms a key part of our overall staff development, Lauren coordinates and arranges the office training and CPD events.
