G3 was appointed to prove structural engineering advice in relation to stonework repairs to existing four storey tenements in the west end of Glasgow. The properties had been subject to a comprehensive tenement improvement programme in the 1980s and this comprised cementitious repairs to the stonework. These repairs are now at the end of their life and were showing significant signs of deterioration. Detailed structural inspections undertaken from scaffolding found that the previous repairs were masking major structural problems with the underlying natural stone. Due to the severity of these defects, the only reasonable option to repair the façade was the wholesale taking down of sections of the elevation and rebuilding. Further localised repairs to the stonework were required between the areas of rebuilding, and these comprised the indentation of natural stone and Lithomex stone repairs. G3 designed and detailed this work as well as providing contract management services.
