Scott Street, Perth Demolition

Following a fire at a five-storey sandstone tenement, G3 Consulting Engineers was contacted by Perth and Kinross Council at 6:00am to provide emergency structural engineering support. Our initial remit was to advise the emergency services on the short-term safety and stability of the building, enabling them to carry out their duties safely and effectively.

Located within a constrained urban environment, the works required immediate mobilisation, detailed planning and a carefully controlled demolition strategy to protect the public, neighbouring properties and nearby infrastructure. G3 worked closely with the client, local authority, demolition contractor and wider project stakeholders to establish safe working zones, manage access and minimise disruption to the surrounding area. Due to the scale, height and traditional sandstone construction and unsafe nature of the building, the demolition required a considered approach, combining specialist plant, careful sequencing and continuous site monitoring. Following completion of the demolition, G3 designed stabilisation works to the exposed gables of the adjoining properties to ensure their long-term stability. The project was delivered safely and efficiently under challenging emergency conditions, with the site secured until a decision is made on any redevelopment of the site.
