Phase 1 at Water Row in Govan forms a key site in the regeneration of the city’s waterfront. This mixed commercial and residential development is located adjacent to the new bridge which links Govan to Partick across the River Clyde. The development forms the first phase of a wider strategic masterplan aimed at reestablishing the city’s connection with its river heritage.
The site presented a number of distinct engineering challenges; the land was formerly in use as a ship building yard, and constraints, including significant buried obstructions and historical contamination, had to be addressed. In addition, the SPT subway tunnel is located at shallow depth adjacent to the site boundary, so early engagement with SPT was critical to ensure that appropriate foundation design solutions could be agreed.
G3 worked closely with the design team to develop an innovative solution that integrated the new public realm around the bridge crossing with the development, while also affording more private garden and landscape space for residents.
